Maybe you’ve wondered how it’s possible that some people (like Panelfly or even us) have photos of iPads with their apps in them weeks before the devices arrive to the market.
Well, the trick is to take the official photos by Apple and replace the screen content. It’s not difficult but a little tedious, especially getting the perspective transforms right. To save time and effort you can use this Photoshop template that does all the work you. Replace the placeholder images with your screenshots and you’re done!

First step
This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License.
Second step
Open the template in Photoshop. Double click the layers named “Double click!” (pretty simple, huh?) or right click on the layer and choose “Edit Contents”. The placeholder image should open in a new window.

Now paste a screenshot of your app on top of the placeholder called “Your app”, save the document and close it. The iPad must have now your app inside. Repeat for the second screen.

Third step
Tweet it! :)

im loving the ipad personally. what do you think of it now? was it upto your standards?
Awesome . I’ve tried it myself and It took me 2 hours to get the same result!!!
Reply: Glad you found it useful :)
This IPad thing is absolutely looking awesome… many of the specifications etc… however now I see this, I instantly don’t like it in just about any respect. I’m a incredibly owner of an iTouch (2nd Generation) and I do believe this thing has upgraded a great deal when compared to the 1st generation. And therefore it will always be improved, but don’t forget that … Never ever obtain a product from Apple when it’s only one year out there, they are going to improve it even so they generally modify step by step to acheive increase sales and profits utilizing their company products… Quite wise folks :-)
Reply: I don’t think the difference between the first and second generation iPad will be as big as the difference between the iPhone and iPod Touch generations. When the iPhone came out it was an evolutionary product. It wasn’t the first smartphone on the market and Apple could study the market to know how much they would sell and what the competition would be. The iPad on the other hand is a revolutionary product. Right now there is nothing like it on the market, but in six months there will be so much competition that Apple has to get the iPad right on the first try.
Thanks for posting this file. It’s a great idea and a time saver. I am having a little trouble though. When I paste in a screenshot in the landscape smart object after double-clicking to open, I then save the psb and close, but the perspective is not applied in the original file. It’s just square on the screen. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’m using PS CS3 on a Mac.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Reply: Works in the portrait one?
Yes, but the portrait one doesn’t appear to have any transform (skew, etc.) applied.
Here is what it looks like after pasting in my screenshot: http://img.skitch.com/20100528-eduj7see3df58jkhcfu29ca66i.png
Reply: Damn!, maybe is a CS3 issue. The file was made in CS4, I’ll try to fix it.
